Current Lectures |
| On the Road From Traditional to Innovative |
There are several different ways to challenge yourself to move beyond traditional quilts. This lecture is a condensed autobiography with emphasis on the different kinds of challenges I've used to expand my quilting. Slides and quilts will be shown. |
|
| The Importance of Value |
Value makes one bolt of fabric stand apart from its neighbors. Value change is what makes colors sparkle. Using slides and quilts, I will lead you to an understanding of how value can create a focal point in your designs and how it can easily give your quilts dimension and movement.
You will leave the lecture with both an understanding and an appreciation of the value of VALUE and how you can apply this knowledge in your future quilts. |
Workshops |
| Value In Action |
This workshop provides an opportunity to complete three small projects that illustrate focal point, dimension, and movement as outcomes of value selection. Students will be provided with a detailed supply list, including a grey scale with specific instructions for selecting fabrics. This workshop can follow the value lecture or stand alone. |
|
| Yin Yang |
The Yin Yang block fascinates me with its tessellating blocks and infinite color possibilities. Students will have an opportunity to work with paper and colored pencils to come up with their own version of a yin yang quilt. They will also learn a wonderful technique involving foundation piecing and machine applique. |
|
| Round Division |
With its simple blocks and unique sashing placement, Round Division is a great quilt to showcase your favorite fabric collections. I will help you refine your fabrics into two distinct, coherent groups that make your quilt sparkle. Round Division is also the perfect introduction to curved piecing. |
|
| Animal Chains |
Remember those paper-doll chains we used to make when we were kids? Animal Chains is a similar idea- only with animals! This quilt features fusible applique edged with buttonhole stitching along with some basic beginner blocks. I will discuss how value and fabric choices can best showcase these wonderful animal chains. |
|
| Rolling Star |
This delightful quilt is a variation of a Jane Friendly pattern from the 1930's. The curved piecing as well as the pieced sashing give it loads of charm. This is a challenging quilt to make but you will learn a method that makes it a breeze. The outcome is definitely worth the effort. |
|
| Egg Drop Soup |
Designed with the beginner in mind, Egg Drop Soup is a color romp that challenges the security of symmetry. Using "liberated" techniques, I combine simple shapes with a palette of strong hues to create a lively quilt that appears to be created from a complicated recipe. Come and learn a stress free technique that lets you create exciting blocks for your own soup quilt. |
|
| Encapsulated |
I combine simple shapes and dynamic fabrics to create a thoroughly modern quilt. I will discuss honing a coherent fabric collection and making good color combinations. I will also demonstrate two simple techniques that combined, create this simple and graphic quilt. |
|
| The Circle Quilt |
A great introduction to machine applique, this quilt uses circles and seminole piecing to create the ultimate scrap quilt. I will discuss the secrets of picking the best fabrics. |
