The Importance of Value: How to Use Value to Add Sparkle to Your quilts

How many of us have invested more than a little time, talent and treasure on fabric purchases? We usually know how much it cost us; the monetary value, but how often do we observe the color value of our selections? Do we even consider "value" when we choose between this fat quarter or that fat quarter?

Value makes one bolt of fabric stand apart from its neighbors. Value is what makes colors sparkle. Using slides and quilts I will lead you to an understanding of how value will create a focal point in your designs and how it can easily give your textiles both dimension and movement.

You will leave the lecture with both an understanding and an appreciation of the value of VALUE and how you can apply this knowledge in your future fabric selections.

The follow-up workshop to this lecture provides students an opportunity to complete three small projects that illustrate focal point, dimension and movement as outcomes of value selection. Students will be provided with a detailed supply list, including a grey scale with specific instructions for selecting fabrics. All three projects will use 2" strips. Some sewing and pasting will be necessary.

Turning the Corner on the Road from Traditional to Innovative

There are several different ways to challenge oneself to move beyond traditional quilts. This lecture is a condensed autobiography with emphasis on the different kinds of challenges I have used to expand my quilting. Slides and quilts will be shown, with plenty of opportunity for interaction and discussion.
